Tree Service in Eloise, FL

Eloise grew up around rail sidings, packing sheds and worker homes south of Lake Lulu. The trees here are just as mixed: grove leftovers, big laurel oaks on narrow lots and wet-ground species by the lakes. We price each one in writing before a saw starts.

Eloise Tree Service Along Snively Avenue and Lake Lulu

Eloise is an unincorporated Polk County community on the south side of Winter Haven, strung along US 17 and Snively Avenue. Polk County's redevelopment plan draws its edges at the CSX railroad on the west, Lake Lulu on the north, the Wahneta Canal on the south and Shell Road on the east. Inside that box you find a numbered street grid running from 1st through 9th Street, an industrial strip on American Superior Boulevard, John Snively Elementary and the Snively-Brooks Park ball fields that share its property. Lake Eloise itself sits just east of the community, with LEGOLAND Florida on its far shore.

The history explains the trees. Homesteaders settled south of Lake Eloise in the 1890s, and a rail station built in 1896 shipped tomatoes and vegetables north. In 1934 John and Tom Snively opened the Polk Packing Company here, and the family eventually employed about 1,400 people across Polk County before the plant closed in 1971. That left grove land, packing-era cottages and decades of volunteer trees that nobody planted on purpose. A lot of what we cut in Eloise today is the second and third generation of that growth.

Tree Removal in Eloise, FL: Floodplain Ground and Grove Leftovers

The county's own planning study notes that much of Eloise lies in the 100-year floodplain that links Lake Lulu, Lake Eloise, Lake Shipp and the lakes to the west, with a pocket of wetlands just south of Lake Lulu. That matters for tree work in two ways. Roots in wet, sandy ground let go more easily in a long soaking rain followed by wind, so laurel oaks and water oaks here tip over whole instead of just dropping limbs. Soft ground also limits where we can set a bucket truck or stump grinder without rutting a yard, so we plan access before quoting.

The common mix on an Eloise lot is laurel oak, water oak, a few live oaks, camphor, sabal palms and leftover orange or grapefruit trees that quit producing years ago. Chinese tallow shows up along ditches and wet back lines, and it spreads fast once it gets started. Lots off the numbered streets are narrow, so a 60-foot oak often stands within a few feet of a roofline, a carport and an overhead service drop at the same time. Most removals here are rigging jobs, piece by piece, rather than a simple fell into open yard.

Eloise Streets and Spots We Work

  • Snively Avenue (CR 655) — the main spine; truck traffic and roadside oaks mean we set up cones and work around the bus loop near the school.
  • 1st through 9th Streets — the original residential grid, with older laurel oaks that have outgrown small front yards.
  • 1st Eloise Avenue and 2nd Eloise Terrace — tight side streets where camphor and volunteer citrus crowd fence lines.
  • American Superior Boulevard — commercial and industrial lots that call for clearing overgrown buffers and fence-line trees.
  • Lake Lulu Drive and the south side of Lake Lulu — wet edges with cypress, maples and tallow; access is the main planning issue.
  • Shell Road — the eastern edge, where larger lots carry slash pine and old grove rows.

Common Eloise Tree Service Jobs

Three jobs come up again and again in Eloise. The first is taking out a big laurel oak that has hit the end of its life, which for that species often means hollow trunks and heavy dead wood around 50 to 70 years. The second is clearing a corner of old citrus, tallow and vines so a homeowner can use the yard again or a landlord can get a rental ready. The third is storm work after a tropical system, when shallow-rooted oaks fall across a street or a shed. We also grind a lot of stumps here, because many lots still carry stumps from trees cut after Hurricane Ian in 2022.

Eloise Tree Removal Rules in Unincorporated Polk County

Eloise is outside Winter Haven city limits, so the City of Winter Haven's tree code does not apply. Polk County's Land Development Code governs instead. For an existing single-family home, routine removal of a tree in the yard generally does not need a county tree permit, but rules tighten for development and site-plan projects, commercial lots and any work in wetlands or along a lake shoreline. Because this community sits on floodplain and wetland ground, we check the parcel with Polk County on every estimate rather than guess. Our guide to tree permits around Winter Haven walks through the city and county differences.

Florida Statute 163.045 also protects owners of single-family homes: when an ISA Certified Arborist or a Florida licensed landscape architect documents that a tree poses an unacceptable risk, a local government cannot require a permit, fee or replanting for its removal. We can arrange that written assessment from an ISA Certified Arborist when a job needs it.

Power Lines and Utility Work Near Eloise Trees

Electric service around Winter Haven is mostly Tampa Electric, with Duke Energy Florida lines in parts of Polk County, so we confirm which utility serves the address before working near wires. We never cut near primary lines; if a limb is in or touching the main distribution wires, the utility has to clear or de-energize it first. Service drops to the house are a different story, and we can usually work around them with ropes and careful cuts.

What Tree Service in Eloise Costs

Most Eloise removals land in the medium range, roughly $850 to $1,800 for an oak in the 30 to 60 foot class, because rigging over a house adds time even when the tree is not huge. A tall, wide laurel oak over a roof can push into the $1,800 to $3,600 range, and if a crane is the safest way to lift it out, plan on another $600 to $1,800. Clearing a row of dead citrus is cheaper per tree, often starting around $325 apiece, and grinding the stumps typically runs $95 to $425 each depending on diameter. Every price is written down before work starts, and haul-off is included on removals.

Typical Eloise jobCommon price range
Dead citrus or small tallow, under 30 ft$325 to $850 per tree
Laurel or water oak, 30 to 60 ft$850 to $1,800
Large oak over a roof or carport$1,800 to $3,600+
Stump grinding after removal$95 to $425 per stump

Tree Trimming, Stump Grinding and Storm Work in Eloise

If the tree can stay, our tree trimming and pruning crew can lift limbs off a roof and thin a dense laurel oak so wind passes through it. When it has to go, full tree removal includes cleanup, and stump grinding gets the yard back to level ground. After a hurricane, our storm damage cleanup team photographs the damage for your insurer before we cut. Owners with old grove trees can read our notes on what to do with old citrus trees before deciding what to keep.

Questions

Eloise Tree Service FAQ

Eloise is unincorporated, so Polk County rules apply rather than Winter Haven's. On an existing single-family lot, a routine yard removal usually does not need a county tree permit. Wetlands, lake edges, commercial parcels and development projects are different, and a good part of Eloise sits on floodplain ground. We check the parcel with the county on each estimate so you are not guessing.

Laurel oaks are fast growers with a shorter lifespan, and many of the ones in Eloise came up on their own after the grove and packing days. Wet sandy soil near Lake Lulu and the floodplain loosens their roots during long rains, so a strong gust can tip the whole tree. We look for root lift, cracked soil and hollow trunks during our free walk-through.

Yes. Dead and declining orange and grapefruit trees are common in Eloise, often tangled with vines and Chinese tallow. We cut them, chip the brush and grind the stumps so the ground can be mowed or replanted. Small citrus usually prices at the low end of our removal range, and a full row on one visit costs less per tree than calling us out one at a time.

If a limb touches the main distribution lines, the utility serving that street has to make it safe first. In the Winter Haven area that is usually Tampa Electric, with Duke Energy Florida in some parts of Polk County. Once the line is clear or de-energized, we can remove the rest of the tree. Limbs over the service drop to your house we can usually handle ourselves with ropes.

Most single stumps run $95 to $425 depending on width, root flare and how easy it is to reach. A stump left from a large laurel oak is at the top of that range. Soft, wet yards near the lakes sometimes need plywood or a smaller grinder to avoid ruts, and we factor that into the written price before we start.

We do. Industrial and commercial parcels in Eloise often need overgrown buffers cut back, fence lines cleared or a dead tree taken down near a loading area. Commercial sites can fall under different county rules than a home, so we confirm requirements with Polk County first. We can schedule work early in the day to stay out of the way of truck traffic.

We can. Before we cut anything, we photograph the tree, the damage and where it landed so you have a record for your claim. Our emergency line runs around the clock for trees on houses, cars or blocking a driveway. Emergency and after-hours work carries a premium, usually 25 to 50 percent over the normal price, and we tell you that number up front.

We plan the access route before we quote. In Eloise, many yards are small and the ground near the lakes stays soft, so we use ground mats, smaller equipment and hand-carry brush when needed. Wood and debris are hauled away as part of every removal, and we rake and blow the area before we leave. If ruts are likely, we will say so up front.
